Jules Verne decided to build a circus in the city, an art that fascinated him and that can be found in two of his novels : Mathias SandorfCésar Cascabel.

The building has been named after the writer since 2002. Like the Cirque d’Hiver de Paris, this building remains one of the few brick-and-mortar circuses still visible in France.
